Frances Jones, MS, MFT Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist LMFT 116103 (510) 424-2548
You've had to step up time and again, doing whatever felt necessary to "keep things together." Your sense of responsibility, your concern about your impact on others, and your ability to anticipate problems others don't recognize are strengths . . . but they've come at a cost. I work with individuals who grew up with a parent or sibling with addiction/mental illness, those grieving losses, and those who struggle to feel secure or relaxed in romantic relationships. I have helped couples navigate parenthood, racial and cultural differences, communication challenges and entrenched arguments, and physical and emotional intimacy issues. All sessions are online or by telephone for now (learn more about telehealth here).
You may be seeking therapy now because . . .
You feel burdened, alone, and ambivalent about what you want from your relationships and your life.
You know you can be (too) self-critical, but are afraid of letting your standards slide.
You're dealing with major changes and could use an "outside person" to talk to.
Symptoms of anxiety or depression are getting in the way of just living your life.
Past experiences (e.g., dysfunctional family history, trauma, oppression/marginalization) are affecting you in the present.
You are having difficulty developing or maintaining committed, mutually fulfilling relationships.
Paying attention to others' thoughts, feelings, and needs comes naturally to you, but you're not sure where to start when it comes to taking care of yourself.
Even if you value independence and self-sufficiency, you don't have to "go it alone." Together, with creativity, curiosity, and humor, we can help you look without fear (or at least with less fear) at yourself and your relationships, and help you make changes that are consistent with who you are and how you want to be.
