Frances Jones, LMFT 116103

Welcome

Hello! I’m Frances, and I offer therapy for individuals and couples. I am a California-licensed marriage and family therapist, and I approach my work with creativity, curiosity, humor, and a fierce sense of integrity.

You may be seeking therapy now because . . .

  • You’re feeling stuck and want something to change.
  • You’re struggling with aspects of pregnancy or parenting.
  • You’re dealing with major life transitions and could use an “outside person” to talk to.
  • Symptoms of anxiety or depression are getting in the way of just living your life.
  • Past experiences (e.g., dysfunctional family history, trauma, oppression/marginalization) are affecting you in the present.
  • You are having difficulty developing or maintaining intimate, fulfilling relationships.
  • Paying attention to others’ thoughts, feelings, and needs comes naturally to you, but you’re not sure where to start when it comes to taking care of yourself.

Even if you value independence and self-sufficiency, you don’t have to “go it alone.” Together we can help you better understand yourself and your relationships, and help you make changes that are consistent with who you are and the life you want.

What are you looking for?

Individual Therapy

Some of the issues I work with include anxiety, depression, pregnancy/parenting, and interpersonal relationship challenges.

Couples Therapy

Couples therapy can be both painful and joyful; it is an opportunity to heal wounds, reconnect, and rediscover intimacy.

About Frances

I enjoy having a diverse and welcoming practice, and I welcome clients from various cultural backgrounds and from LGBTQ+ communities.

I love the creative, collaborative work of therapy, which I approach with a sense of fierce integrity. I believe that our past experiences and relationships influence our thoughts, emotions, and actions today, and I see the therapeutic relationship as a place to discover and try out new ways of being and feeling in the world.

I draw on a number of different approaches to make therapy meaningful and productive for each of my clients, and I like to pay attention to important past experiences as well as what comes up right there in session. I believe in the healing and insight-building power of the therapeutic relationship itself.

I have worked with individuals, married and unmarried couples, families, children/adolescents, and groups at various locations throughout the East Bay. I hold a Master of Science in Marriage, Family, and Child Counseling from San Francisco State University (2016). I have completed the Gottman Method Couples Therapy Level 1 and Level 2 Trainings. I am a clinical member of the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists (CAMFT) and a professional member of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT). I previously served as president of the Board of Directors at Blue Oak Therapy Center in Berkeley.
