Frances Jones, MS, MFT Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist LMFT 116103 (510) 424-2548
Special notice: During the coronavirus (COVID-19) situation, I am providing video sessions instead of in-person individual therapy and couples therapy in California (my physical office is in Oakland, in the San Francisco Bay Area). Although in general I prefer to see clients in person, I have been pleasantly surprised to find that video therapy can be a good option during these strange, stressful, and confusing times. It makes sense if you are feeling sad, scared, anxious, or disappointed right now . . . our lives have been turned upside-down by the evolving COVID-19 emergency, and we don't know precisely when things will return to some semblance of "normal." And for couples, you may be trying individually to manage your own worries while also navigating new routines (like both working from home, not having childcare, and other changes). Please give me a call so we can talk about what might be helpful for you right now; I am happy to consider shorter-term or longer-term therapy, depending on your circumstances. I am also able to work with long-distance couples or couples not able to physically meet from the same location. I look forward to hearing from you.
Therapy is an opportunity to feel genuinely seen and understood by another person, maybe for the first time. I believe that it is from this place--of knowing yourself with compassion and being known without judgment--that meaningful change is possible.
You may be seeking therapy now because . . .
You are struggling to maintain a sense of balance, stability, or contentment.
You are navigating a major life transition (e.g., moving, pregnancy).
Symptoms of anxiety or depression are making it harder for you to live the kind of life you want.
Past experiences (e.g., dysfunctional family history, trauma, oppression/marginalization) are affecting you in the present.
You are having difficulty developing or maintaining healthy, satisfying, mutually fulfilling relationships.
Taking care of others comes naturally to you, but you're not sure where to start when it comes to caring for yourself.
Even if you value independence and self-sufficiency, I don't want you to have to "go it alone." I invite you to join me in an honest, real therapeutic relationship, where together—with creativity, curiosity, and humor—we can help you build the life and relationships you want.
