Attending to other people and other people's feelings may come naturally to you, but you also deserve to feel OK (or even good!) more of the time. Therapy can be a chance to learn how to do both: to meet your life responsibilities and maintain important relationships, while also respecting and caring for yourself.
We will generally meet once a week for about 50 minutes. Early in our work, I will ask you what brings you to therapy, and I will try to get a sense of what is going on for you now as well as aspects of your history or experiences that may have relevance today. My focus is not on finding something "wrong with you" or on defining you now based on your past: I simply want to hear and understand what you are dealing with, and what you have gone through. Then we can collaborate to convert insight into change that you want.
Some of the issues I work with include:
-Grief and unexpected loss
-Breakups and relationship loss
-Anxiety and depression
-Trauma
-Biracial and bicultural issues
-Dysfunctional family experiences
-Sibling relationships
-Loneliness and isolation
-Unsatisfying interpersonal relationships
-Pregnancy and pregnancy loss

A word about grief and loss: Grieving a death, or the loss of a relationship, or something else held dear is not just painful but isolating: you may feel like you're "supposed" to be "getting over it," when in fact you are more in pain than ever. I don't have a timeline for your grief. I understand that healing takes time and can feel unfathomable, and I will meet you where you are while also holding on to hope.
